Artist: Spiros Zachos / Leaf Study # d - October 2000

Note from the Artist:  A notion of photographing the autumn foliage in upstate New York, turned into a three day weekend drive in October of 2000. The drive started Friday and without sleep I arrived to my destination at 10am Saturday morning. Twenty hours of driving gave me plenty of time to plan my photo shoot and to compose, beautiful scenic photographs in my mind from memory and familiarity with an area in which I lived in for 14 years. As I stepped out of the car, eager to start photographing in that crystal clear, bright blue, sun lit morning, a mental void took over and all the planning I had done was lost in the red, yellow and green hills in front of me.  Perhaps the fatigue of the long drive took away my starting point but for 12 hours that weekend I walked through the woods studied and photographed various possible elements, maybe different pieces or the recipe that makes up the overwhelming colorful power of the autumn foliage in the northeast corner of the United States.
