COP 2741 is a three-credit course meeting 10 hours a week. Completion of CGS 1570 (Computer Concepts and Applications) is required. Course requires computer use outside of class time to complete computer assignments.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class will cover Oracle9i and Oracle9i Release 2 features. This course is your first step towards success as an Oracle professional, designed to give you a firm foundation in basic database tasks. In this class, students learn how to design, create, and maintain an Oracle database. Students are taught how to: use Globalization Support features, start up and shut down an Oracle instance and database, manage users, privileges, and resources, manage tablespaces, segments, extents, and blocks, manage Oracle database files, and create an operational database. Prepares students for Exam #1Z0-031: Oracle9i: DBA Fundamentals l.
GRADING CRITERIA: There will be approximately seven (7) written tests, including the final examination, covering Chapters 1-14. The 7 assignments will be equally weighted (14 points each--total possible points 98) and count as one test. The course grade will be an average of the written tests and assignments. The following grade scale will be used:
90 - 100 = A 70 - 76 = C
87 - 89 = B+ 67 - 69 = D+
80 - 86 = B 60 - 66 = D
77 - 79 = C+ Below 60 = F
Missed tests must be made up the day after returning to class. STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SCHEDULING MAKEUP TESTS.
IMPORTANT: Students desiring to withdraw must do so before the 70% point. Students with excessive absences will be withdrawn. Incompletes can be given only if 70% of classwork has been completed and there is a reasonable chance of passing. See PJC catalog for withdrawal, incomplete, and attendance policies.
