COP 1510 is a three-credit course meeting 3 hours a week. Completion of CGS 1570 (Computer Concepts and Applications) is required before taking this course. Course requires computer use outside of class time to complete computer assignments.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to help the student understand fundamental computer programming techniques and problem solving. These concepts are reinforced by assigned projects using C++
GRADING CRITERIA: There will be four (4) written tests, including the final exam. The tests will cover Chapters 1-6, & 14 from the text. The 12 assignments will be equally weighted (8 points each--total possible points 96) and count as one test. The course grade will be an average of the written tests and assignments. The following grade scale will be used:
90 - 100 = A 70 - 75 = C
87 - 89 = B+ 67 - 69 = D+
80 - 85 = B 60 - 65 = D
77 - 79 = C+ Below 60 = F
MAKEUP TESTS WILL BE GIVEN ON THE DAY OF THE FINAL. If all tests are taken, the lowest written test grade will be dropped. Makeup tests will be given on the day of the final exam. See PJC catalog for attendance policy - students with excessive absences will be withdrawn.
Required Textbook: Gaddis, Starting Out With C++, Alternate Third Edition,
Scott/Jones Inc, 2003
Supplemental Materials: 3.5" high density diskettes to be used for assignments
Special Requirements: This course requires the use of a computer outside of class time to complete the assignments -- a minimum of approximately 3 hours per week.
EXTRA CREDIT: Perfect attendance before each test = 3 points added to test score.
