CET 1485 is a three-credit course meeting 10 hours a week.  Completion of CGS 1570 (Computer Concepts and Applications) is required.  Course requires computer use outside of class time to complete computer assignments.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This three-credit course serves as a general introduction for students to acquire a foundation in current network technologies for local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and the Internet. It provides an introduction to the hardware, software, terminology, components, design, and connections of a network, as well as the topologies and protocols for LANs. It covers LAN-user concepts and the basic functions of system administration and operation. The course uses a combination of lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and hands-on labs.

This course provides information necessary to pass the CompTIA Network +Ô exam.

The course is also intended for those who will support or administer networks.

GRADING CRITERIA: There will be approximately fifteen (15) written tests, covering Chapters 1-15.  The course grade will be an average of the written tests.  The following grade scale will be used:

90 - 100 = A                70 - 76 = C

87 -   89 = B+              67 - 69 = D+

80 -   86 = B                60 - 66 = D

77 -   79 = C+             Below 60 = F

Missed tests must be made up the day after returning to class. STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SCHEDULING MAKEUP TESTS.

IMPORTANT: Students desiring to withdraw must do so before the 70% point. Students with excessive absences will be withdrawn. Incompletes can be given only if 70% of classwork has been completed and there is a reasonable chance of passing. See PJC catalog for withdrawal, incomplete, and attendance policies.
