CEN 1304 is a three-credit course meeting 10 hours a week.  Completion of CGS 1570 (Computer Concepts and Applications) is required.  Course requires computer use outside of class time to complete computer assignments.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to install, configure, customize, and troubleshoot Windows XP professional in work group and domain networks. In addition, this course gives you the background to understand Microsoft courses that cover detailed technical support of Windows XP Professional and Windows Server.

This course provides information necessary to pass the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) 70-270 exam (Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows XP Professional).

The course is also intended for those who will support or administer networks.

GRADING CRITERIA: There will be approximately eight (8) written tests, covering Chapters 1-15.  There will be eight (8) assignments, equally weighted (12 points each--total possible points 96), which will count as one test.  The course grade will be an average of the written tests and assignments.  The following grade scale will be used:

90 - 100 = A                 70 - 76 = C

87 -   89 = B+               67 - 69 = D+

80 -   86 = B                 60 - 66 = D

77 -   79 = C+               Below 60 = F

Missed tests must be made up the day after returning to class. STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SCHEDULING MAKEUP TESTS.

IMPORTANT: Students desiring to withdraw must do so before September 30. It is the student’s responsibility to submit the withdrawal paperwork as per PJC catalog. Incompletes can be given only if 70% of classwork has been completed and there is a reasonable chance of passing. See PJC catalog for withdrawal, incomplete, and attendance policies.
