A: This course requires a multimedia computer (Sound card, CD player and speakers) with Internet access at a minimum of a 28.8 Kbps modem. The student must have access to Windows PC or Macintosh running either Netscape Communicator 4.0 or above or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or above.
Q8: What kind of browser do I need for taking this course?
A: Following is the announcement from WebCT concerning your browser:

Internet Explorer 5.5 (Service Pack-1)
A bug exists in Microsoft's IE5.5(SP1)

Details: When downloading, a prompt should appear asking the user to open or save the file; however, in Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 1 (SP1), the user is prompted to open or save the HTML file instead.

Microsoft has supplied a fix for this issue which can be found on their Product Support Services site.

Apply this fix to your IE 5.5 SP1 browser.

Netscape 6.x with WebCT
Many WebCT users have reported significant problems using the Netscape 6.0 and 6.01 browser to view WebCT content.

Details: While WebCT does plan to support Netscape 6.x in future, Netscape 6.0 and 6.01 are not currently supported for use with any versions of WebCT up to and including WebCT 3.6.

AOL and WebCT
AOL customized versions of Internet Explorer does not work in WebCT.

Details: WebCT supports only full-featured browsers. Some internet service providers (e.g. America Online or AOL) provide their users with 'Customized' versions of Internet Explorer or Netscape. Because of the way that these browsers use JavaScript, they are not compatible with WebCT.

WebCT is only compatible with full-featured browsers.

We recommend the following:
-Netscape Navigator version 4.5x or higher (version 6.0 not recommended)
-Netscape Communicator version 4.5x or higher (version 6.0 not recommended)
-Internet Explorer (IE) version 5.0 or higher

A: Answers to the questions that most students have are posted on the bulletin board inside of WebCT or FAQ - Assignments.  Please email your instructor if you have more questions.
Q10: What do I have to do to get my grade?
A: Final evaluation of a student's performance in the course will be based on a series of assignments. The assignments will be associated with chapter materials and will be e-mailed to the instructor or posted on the bulletin board. There are two Web Page projects which will be created with Netscape Composer or Microsoft FrontPage Express. The assignments will total a maximum 100 points. The Assignment page inside of WebCT contains all assignments and their associated point value.
Q11: Anything else do I need to know?
A: The key to your success largely depends on the effort you put into the course. If you follow the instructor's guidelines and use the resources provided, you can successfully complete the course and earn 3.0 college credits. If you have questions at any time, please contact your instructor for assistance.
Q12: How do I logout from WebCT?
A: Unfortunately, there is no logout feature in WebCT.  The only way to do it is to exit.  You have to completely close Internet Explorer or Netscape to logout of WebCT.  Then login as a different user after you reload IE or Netscape.
