Site-Licensed Software Respondus Respondus is a powerful tool for creating and managing quizzes and surveys that can be published directly to your eLearning course. And because PJC has a site license, Respondus is freely available for you to load on your campus computer. As a companion to eLearning, Respondus can be used to build quizzes, create surveys, and expand question databases. Respondus can also import questions from a text file, such as a quiz created in Microsoft Word. The Respondus Format file below provides a quick reference to formatting a test file for import. StudyMate StudyMate by Respondus is an authoring tool that makes it easy to create Flash-based learning activities and games. Formats include Fact cards, Pick-A-Letter, Fill in the Blank, Matching, Crosswords, and Glossaries. You can import items from MS Word and some publisher test banks, making it easy to create interesting, interactive activities from existing content. The activities you create can be saved to a CD-ROM, presented on any web server, or published directly to ANGEL. Best of all, PJC has a site license! Impatica Impatica is software specifically developed for preparing and optimizing PowerPoint presentations for online delivery. Impatica has the ability to keep audio and animations in tact, and PJC now has a site license for Impatica for Powerpoint version 4.0.

Step-by-Step Video Instructions for Impatica Here are some helpful videos (that were made for an instructor) that show how to convert your PowerPoints using Impatica and then how to add them to your Learning Object Repository. Uploading them to the LOR saves server space as the files do not get copied over and over again with each new course and new semester. Once the files are uploaded the your LOR, the next step is to connect them to your course. Plug-ins and Converters Adobe Reader Adobe Reader is a free plug-in that allows users to view PDF files. Macromedia Flash Player Macromedia Flash Player is a free plug-in that enables users to view and interact with dynamic web content. Microsoft 2007 Office Add-in: Microsoft Save as PDF This download allows you to export and save to the PDF format in eight 2007 Microsoft Office programs. It also allows you to send files as e-mail attachments in the PDF format in a subset of these programs.

Works Converter (To open .wps files) OpenOffice Converter (To open .odt files) To open a file in Microsoft Office that has been created in OpenOffice, you will need to first convert the file. The following site provides an easy conversion tool that will convert files created in all of the OpenOffice programs into their corresponding Microsoft Office files.
Downloading and installing this compatibility pack will enable you to open, edit, and save documents, workbooks, and presentations in the file formats new to Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007. Screen Capture Software CamStudio CamStudio is free streaming video software. CamStudio is able to record all screen and audio activity on your computer and create industry-standard AVI files that can be converted into bandwidth-friendly Streaming Flash videos (SWFs).
Jing Jing is free software that allows you to snap a picture of your screen or record a short video (with audio) of onscreen action. You can then upload and share your screen captures with others. Jing is created by the same folks who have created Camtasia and SnagIt!.
Other Software Audacity 1.2.6 and LAME 3.97 Audacity is a full-featured audio editor for creating podcasts and/or other audio-based projects. The program is free and allows the user to record, edit, and playback multiple audio tracks. You can import sound files and combine them with other files or new recordings via microphone or line input. Features include: easy editing with Cut, Copy, Paste, and Delete; unlimited Undo (and Redo) to go back any number of steps; very fast editing of large files; edit and mix an unlimited number of tracks; use the Drawing tool to alter individual sample points; fade the volume up or down smoothly with the Envelope tool. LAME is a companion program for Audacity. To export Audacity files in MP3 format for podcasting you must also download the LAME MP3 encoder. The first time you use the "Export as MP3" command, Audacity will ask you where lame_enc.dll is saved. Installation is simple, although instructions are available online at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. GIMP GIMP is freely distributed image editing software. GIMP is similar in functionality to Adobe Photoshop and Jasc PaintShop Pro. Using GIMP you can enhance and edit your images, as well as optimize them for web delivery.
SSH Secure Shell Secure Shell is a program that allows you to transfer files from one computer to another over the Internet. It provides strong authentication and secure communications over unsecured channels. Using Secure Shell, you can transfer files to your ITECH server space from anywhere. Save the file named SSHSecureShellClient-3.2.9.exe to your computer's desktop. To install the SSH program on your computer, double-click the icon on your desktop. This will launch the SSH Client installer program. If you need additional assistance, view the Secure Shell tutorial to help install the program correctly. WinZip WinZip is a program that compresses (reduces file size) of multiple files while placing them into one archive. This allows for better file storage and easier transfer over the Internet. WinZip also works with your ANGEL course. Instead of uploading one file at a time, WinZip can compress (also known as zipping) multiple files into a single archive, which can then be uploaded and unzipped into the Manage Files section of your ANGEL course. Also, files located in the Manage files section of your ANGEL course can be zipped for easy download.
