The purpose of the Online Course Development Process is to support faculty in their efforts to ensure student success and retention in Distance Learning courses at PJC by incorporating sound instructional design with academic excellence. Quality Assurance Students have the right to expect the highest levels of quality and consistency in online courses offered at PJC. To that end, courses to be offered completely online or in a hybrid format must be both approved to develop and to offer by the PJC Curriculum Council. Faculty developers will need at least one semester of development time. Course Design Teamwork To ensure instructional quality, faculty developers should form a partnership during the development process with PJC's instructional technologists and with an interdisciplinary cohort of their peers. The role of the instructional technologists is to ensure that faculty master the necessary technology skills and acquire sound instructional design principles for the online learning environment. The role of the interdisciplinary peer cohort is to conduct a course review, offer insight and suggestions for improvement based on their own online teaching experiences, and recommend approval to offer to the PJC Curriculum Council. Process Overview The following materials will provide an overview of how the PJC Course Development Process works.
