Grading:

Tests (5) - 100 pts ea;   Homework - 150 pts total;   Final Exam - 150 pts.
I drop your lowest Test score - excluding Test 5.  If you miss a Test, then that is the score that is automatically dropped.  No makeups allowed on the second (or more) Test missed.
Improving a Test score
You may replace any one (1) in-class Test score (except Test 5) with your score on the corresponding MyMathLab Unit.  Additional Information
Refer to the Student Progress Worksheet for grading specifics. PDF , Excel

D+: 65 - 69%    D: 60 - 64%     F: 0 - 59%

Homework:

Do the textbook problems and worksheets assigned on the Homework Problems Handout. Show your work to earn credit! The answers to the odd problems are listed in the back of the book so that you can check your work.  Copying the answers from the back of the book to your homework is cheating (see Standards of Conduct below).   with hyperlinks ,   pdf version

Extra Credit:

Turn in a MyMathLab Quiz, a Research Report, or other listed assignment.
Additionally, you can do the Chapter 6 Worksheet for Extra Credit.

Deadlines:

It is the student's responsibility to observe all deadlines. If you miss a Homework deadline, then turn in the Assignment upon returning to class. Assignments turned in late may be subject to a late penalty. The absolute deadline for any Assignment is the day of the next Test - failure to complete an Assignment by that deadline will result in a zero for the Assignment.  LATE PENALTY: I do not usually deduct points from the 1st late Assignment; I may deduct 10 pts. from your 2nd late Assignment; I may deduct 15 points from each subsequent late Assignment.

Attendance:

Attend ALL classes.  If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to find out what work you missed.  I take roll and use the guidelines outlined in the current catalog.  If you arrive late, check with me at the end of class so as not to be listed as absent (3 tardies = 1 absence).

Misc:
  • AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT: Any student whose disabilities fall within the ADA must inform the instructor at the beginning of the term of any special need or equipment necessary to accomplish the requirements for this course. I encourage students with disabilities to speak with Disability Support Services (DSS) about accommodations they might need to help assure success in this class. Contact Information: Dr. James Nickles, 484-1637, JNickles@pjc.edu, Pensacola Campus - Building 6.

  • The Texas Instruments TI-84 (preferred) or the TI-83 Plus is the required graphing calculator in this class. You'll use it everyday in class, on homework, and on tests.

However, please refrain from any unnecessary talking in class, as it disturbs me and the other students sitting around you.  Repeated unnecessary talking and chit-chat in class will result in you being asked to leave the class.  Disruptive behavior is not allowed in the class.

  • Actively participate in class.

  • Please turn off all cell phones (silent mode is OK) when you are in class.
